Quebec City very beautiful. Although it is often overlooked, not a larger destination Toronto and Montrealthis is the first place that European explorers arrived in the 16th and 17th centuries. The city’s Old Town is the cultural center of Quebec (and the province’s capital) and is one of the preservation hubs throughout North America.
As a food and history lover, I love Quebec City. It’s a fun place no matter the season, although I think it’s especially beautiful in winter when its old world is covered in snow.
This is a popular holiday destination (for Canadians and tourists), so there are plenty of hotels to choose from. Some are great and will greatly enrich your experience, while others will not.
To help you make the most of your visit there and choose from hundreds of hotels that will appear on the booking site, here is my list of the best hotels in Quebec City.
1. Hotel Atypiq
Opened in 2022, this new three-star hotel offers great value to the location. It contains a unique concept of offering super small rooms that are large enough to accommodate a bed that folds from a wall. The room itself is minimalist with light tones and lots of natural light, as well as some wooden decor. The bathroom is also small but very new, with new shower heads, free toiletries and cool murals on the shower wall. The interior facilities are sparse (just a flat-screen TV), but there is a shared kitchen where you can cook food or drink coffee, as well as a nice garden and terrace.
There is a simple free breakfast (including bread, fruit, meat), but you have to make it yourself using a shared kitchen. Overall, it’s an efficient hotel that almost feels like a hotel. I think this is a great choice for budget travelers who want private rooms and bathroom privacy.
2. Fairmont Le Fiontak
This hotel is one of the most iconic attractions in the city, if not the entire country. The luxury castle opened in 1893 and is such an important landmark that you can actually take Hotel tour guide Even if you are not here. If you do stay in this five-star hotel, it feels like you live in a historic palace. The spacious lobby is super affluent, dazzling and winding stairs provide the hotel with a classic luxurious character.
The rooms are stylish and airy, although I do think they feel a little dated due to the bland carpet and palette of the room. Indoor amenities include a rain shower, a desk and a coffee machine. The award-winning castle also boasts several gourmet restaurants and bars as well as an indoor pool, hot tub, spa, steam room and fitness room. Breakfast, while expensive, is amazing and offers a lot of options for all diets.
If you want eternal luxury, stay here.
3. Hôtel DuJardin – Par Les Lofts
This 3-star hotel consists of spacious loft apartments, making it ideal for groups or families (or anyone seeking more space than a standard hotel room). It feels a bit like staying in Airbnb, as there are no contact check-in and password entries. The loft has a minimalist design with light tones and wooden decor, as well as a huge grayscale animal portrait on the wall. The bright tiled bathroom was stressful (I always admired), the table, soft bed, coffee machine and flat-screen TV.
While there is no breakfast available, there is a walk to where you can take a bite (nearby Saint Roch is, actually one of the best foodie areas in the city). Overall, it’s an easy but comfortable option for couples or groups who want more space. I think it’s especially ideal if you plan on staying in the city for longer, as this trendy neighborhood has a more local feel than the old town.
4. AubergeJa Moisan
Return to Victorian Quebec in this charming four-star bed and rest. The bed and breakfast is decorated similarly to when it was built in the mid-19th century and comes with floral duvets, colorful wallpapers, and exposed brick and wood. I love that you can enjoy a fantastic continental breakfast in the Victorian living room (with fresh croissants!), hang out on the outdoor terrace, or prepare your own meals in the guest kitchen.
There are few next to the room and there are almost no facilities (for example, there is no TV in the room, although you can have a Roku stick in the living room, you can use the Roku stick). The cozy rooms feature super comfortable beds, antique lights and period furniture, and many rooms even have deep claw bathtubs in the bathroom (although I found the bathroom a little small). While it’s not a very spacious property, it not only makes up for its charm and service. This is one of the most unique accommodations in the city.
5.
This lovely 3-star hotel is just a 10-minute walk from the Old Town. The room is simply decorated with plenty of natural light, hardwood floors, colorful walls, and even exposed bricks. All rooms have a flat-screen TV, a desk and a super comfortable bed. If you want to splash, some suites have a private terrace and a jacuzzi tub. There was no breakfast, but there was a Nespresso machine in each room and coffee/tea in the common area 24/7. You can also walk to the many dining options here.
What I particularly like is that there is a common roof terrace where you can hang out and enjoy panoramic views of the city. Another benefit is that if you have a vehicle, you can keep the parking space. This is a place to check in digitally, which is convenient if you arrive at odd hours.
Quebec City Whatever the season, it’s worth a visit. With its vibrant food scene, amazing history and Old Town, and year-round holiday schedules, I think Quebec City weighs much more than it weighs. Just make sure to select a hotel above. Do this and you are sure to make an amazing and comfortable visit to the capital of Quebec!
