BostonFor any traveler, it has a long history, extensive green space and a first-class museum. While I may be biased (I grew up here), I think more people should visit, especially history lovers and foodies.
Whether you are strolling along the cobbled streets of Tag Mountain, exploring the bustling harbour area, or enjoying the iconic views along the Charles River There is much to offer in this city (Don’t skip the free trail!).
When it comes to accommodation, Boston has many options to suit every traveler and budget. But some of these hotels are better than others. Others should avoid it altogether.
To help you find the perfect base for your stay, here is my list of the best hotels in Boston:
1. The Godfrey Hotel Boston
Godfrey Hotel is a stylish boutique hotel in the heart of the city. One thing I really like here is that they offer free bikes, helmets and locks, which is perfect for covering more ground while exploring. They also have a fitness center with Peloton bicycles. At breakfast they have an on-site cafe with pastries, fresh coffee and breakfast sandwiches. The hotel restaurant is also nice (it’s a Peruvian fusion place with cool interiors and great cocktails). For quick nightcaps, the hotel lobby bar is a great choice and I love that they also offer you a free welcome drink.
The room is stylish and minimalist, offering a comfortable bed with plush beds and windows that allow for a lot of natural light (and there are blackout curtains so you can have a good night’s sleep). I appreciate the well-thought-out facilities including convenient workspace, mini insurance company, 55-inch Samsung HDTV, Bose Bluetooth speakers and yoga mats. The bathrooms are equally impressive in the city.
2
This quirky and fun boutique hotel is located in Back Bay, just a few steps from Boston Common, within walking distance to many of the city’s top attractions. The hotel’s design is bold and vibrant, full of pineapple-themed decorations. Don’t worry, it looks better than you think and adds a playful twist to the otherwise classic early 20th century architecture. I love that when you check in, you get free welcome drinks at the hotel’s bar/restaurant, and in the afternoon, there are free coffee, tea and snacks in the lobby. Although there is no breakfast on site, there are plenty nearby. Additionally, the hotel offers free bikes that you can use to travel around the city.
The rooms here are compact but well-designed, making the most of the space with an effective layout. Like the rest of the hotel, the rooms are bright and colorful, with playful pineapple accents, comfortable beds, soft bedding, and thoughtful amenities such as Keurig coffee machines, fluffy robes, slippers and small tables. I also like that they offer a reusable water bottle with filtered water (you can carry it with you or leave it and they will recycle it when you leave). The bathroom is stylish and new with a glass enclosed shower, excellent toiletries and huge plush towels.
Overall, it’s a great option for travelers looking for unique, budget-friendly accommodation. This is a particularly good choice if you are traveling as a pet, as they are known for their dog-friendly rooms and facilities.
3. Langham
This unique hotel lives in a landmark five-star hotel in the former Fed, blending historic charm with modern luxury. I love walking through the magnificent entrance into the stunning hall with magnificent chandeliers and marble accents. The former bank hall is now the hotel’s signature restaurant, Grana, which offers a classic and unique Italian restaurant, encountering New England dishes (think the lobster Cannoli), as well as fantastic breakfast sauces, including more indulgent options from freshly baked pastries to the more indulgent Florentine Benedict. I also really like their cocktail bars in the British style, the Federal Reserve. They offer great cocktails, high bar fares and even free jazz every Friday. There is also a high-tech fitness center open 24/7, and there is a beautiful (and heated) indoor pool and a sauna for relaxation.
Huge, luxurious room with luxurious bedding, carefully curated artwork by local artists, stylish furniture and large windows for plenty of natural light. Indoor amenities include a large workbench, Nespresso machines, a well-stocked minibar (I love it’s full of local candy), a secure and a 50-inch flat-screen TV. The bathrooms in the room are spacious and beautifully designed with a luxurious marble finish, as well as luxurious marble decor and walk-in rain showers (some rooms also have deeper tubing).
Langham is a great choice for travelers looking for a central hotel that blends the charm of the old world with modern comfort. If you want to splurge, look for nothing!
4. Boston Harbour Hotel
Located on the water, this 4-star hotel is an ideal base for exploring the waterfront, the Institute of Contemporary Art, and nearby attractions such as the Boston Children’s Museum. The hotel has a stylish, modern design, plenty of natural light and open spaces, as well as quality amenities including a 11,000 square foot 24/7 fitness center with group classes, indoor heated indoor pool, steam room and tranquil garden area.
There are three great restaurants too. For breakfast, I like the fact that you can sit down in Aura (their breakfast restaurant that offers a variety of delicious options for all your meals) or pick up some snap-up delicacies from Seaport Café. For dinner, try Tamo Bistro + Bar, where you can enjoy a locally inspired menu (including herbs and honey from the hotel’s own rooftop garden and bee colony).
Each room offers views of the city or the harbor. Plus, they are spacious and comfortable, with a pillow bed, pillow menu and even weighted blankets upon request. I’m also grateful for the reading light and USB port on the headboard. All rooms feature workbenches, 55-inch HD TV, safe with streaming services, Keurig coffee machine, mini fridge and laptop-sized safe. The bathroom is also large with marble countertops, foggy-free mirrors and a walk-in shower with quality bathroom products. Stay here if you want to stay in an area where visitors are not normally considered.
5. Newbury Hotel Boston
Located on Newbury Street opposite the historic Boston Public Gardens, this iconic five-star property is a classic and elegant masterpiece. It opened in 1927 as the first ever Ritz Carlton Hotel and recently received a massive restoration of two years, reopening for Newbury. I love the luxurious moody feel of it throughout, with velvet furniture, rich colored walls and custom artwork. I especially like the guests’ private library lounge. It’s perfect for settled with drinks and taking a book off the shelf for reading. For breakfast, I recommend the amazing rooftop restaurant Contessa, which offers great cuisine, i.e. the Italian restaurant (with Panettone French Toast and Carbonara Cramble), although you can also get classic egg and pancake breakfast fares at the hotel’s street bar.
The rooms here are spacious and well thought out, with custom designed furniture, original illustrations on the walls, and soft lighting to keep it calm. Each room includes a plush king or queen bed with a high-end mattress. I especially like headboard lighting and large workbenches, although there are also some amenities such as indoor Nespresso machines and stocked minibars. The marble bathroom features glass-enclosed showers, custom toiletries and very nice fluffy robes and towels.
Everything about this place exudes luxury, which is a great choice for those looking for premium and relaxing accommodation in Boston. This is also the main place to explore the high-end shopping, dining and cultural attractions in Houwan.
