We drove from the Mitchell Highway into the orange, a relaxing, four-hour drive from Sydney – despite the sled and snow on the windshield.

It is always surprising how cold winter is on the central plains.

So far, the height of the inland is over 800m so far, which is not only the winter here, it is surprising.

Considering its distance from the ocean, Oriana Motel Find its name from the most unlikely source.

Named after one of the last great ship cruisers SS Orianathis motel was built in 1969, and was charming and luxurious in the 1920s.

During its heyday in the 1970s and 1980s, Oriana and its bars and restaurants were this The place to see is comparable to the Soirees and the exquisite dinner. `

But, like they did, things changed, and the reputation of the 1990s fell to its lowest ups and downs.

But since 2015, Oriana has once again been glitzy and full of charm thanks to its new owner, the highest-ranking Espen Harbitz and his late husband Ted Marr.

Oriana Motel, Orange NSW - Reception and breakfast room at the motel

Welcome to Oriana Motel, Orange

Our welcome at the reception was so warm we forgot about the bad weather left over from us. The reception is also where breakfast takes place, but if we need snacks or coffee at any time of the day, we can buffet ourselves here.

This is the first (but not the last example) of cleverness and generosity you find in Oriana.

Rooms at Oriana Motel

There are two types of rooms in Oriana. The front door of the ordinary room on the ground has traditional car space and has all the decor you’d expect from the mid-century Retro Motel.

However, the rooms above the reception and dining room are in different leagues.

Ours – a Oriana King Terrace Suite – Overlooking the shared roof terrace decorated with citrus trees and stylish outdoor furniture.

Inside the room we found many clever details and inclusions, how outstanding these details and inclusions were when operating this site.

This is the quality of the bathroom amenities, it is super soft dresses, free snacks in the minibar and fresh fruit in the lounge.

This is the tea next to the bed, as well as a variety of pillows and bedding options, not to mention the truly delicious chocolate.

Everything is thoughtful and it pays off.

As for the decor, each suite has a different theme. Ours is Africa, with artwork on the walls, maps and posters all from Espen’s private collection telling the story.

Oriana Dinner

Tonight we start with a charming cocktail Bela Vista Bar and chat with the unrivalled Espen, whose family comes from the hotel industry.

When our table was brought, we turned to Peacock Room – Oriana’s acclaimed restaurant and the crown jewels of this food-centric town.

We started with thinly sliced Nordic marinated venison, sweet mustard, cranberry and sour dough merba toast and towering double baked egg cheese made from Alpine French cheese.

It’s obvious why this restaurant has such a good name in orange.

When we worked through the exemplary wine list, the main power came out.

I can’t get past the hip hat on the skewers, it’s available for potatoes – I went for wine.

I like the kitchen doesn’t ask you to choose Bernasse, red Chimicurri and green pepper sauce with their steak. Instead, they gave you three.

Christina’s fish pie and its creamy cheddar jam top are outstanding.

We used a creamy dessert recommendation that neither of us needed, but we both liked it. We completed several local reinforcements, making us want to move here.

sauna

If the Norwegian flag flies around Australia next to the front door Scandinavian style sauna ESPEN installed by the pool should clear any questions about where he comes from!

This motel’s guest-only features are the right trend and is a great addition, especially during the winter months. When you pour water on the hot coals, you can sweat here and the temperature will exceed 60°C.

There is even an option to use the pool as a cold pool and then warm up in the fire pit. Although the outside air will be close to zero, we have two ideas whether it really needs to fall in the pool.

But it’s a feeling of fun and freedom, and whimsy ideas like Oriana’s sauna give you full permission to enjoy yourself. Isn’t that what you want when you go somewhere?

Every time we come to orangewe found something that completely appealed to us. Oriana, you have our hearts.
