Cindy’s Q&A: Why Rock Climbers Should Be On Your Travel List

Cindy’s Q&A: Why Rock Climbers Should Be On Your Travel List

There is no better way than hearing from a trusted friend about the holidays. A good travel story gives you details you won’t find in a brochure – those moments of small, the views that hold your breath and the experiences that make your trip memorable.

That’s why we’re happy to share the journey of President Cindy Anderson, who recently took a trip to the Rocky Mountaineer, one of the world’s foremost luxury trains.

This legendary rail experience winds through the Canadian Rockies and will take you to enjoy panoramic views of snow-capped peaks, turquoise lakes, winding rivers and dramatic canyons that are all about the comfort of glass house train cars. Along the way, your seat serves delicious food and the host on board shares stories of history, wildlife and landmarks.

Railway trips are different from any other trip – you can simply relax the rhythm of the train and watch the scenery unfold. Along several routes across western Canada, Rock Climbers connect you to iconic destinations such as Vancouver, Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper and Calgary. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime way to see the comfort and style of the Rockies.

After Cindy’s trip, we sat down with Cindy and heard the feeling of the rock climber for ourselves. From her favorite point of view to the moment that surprised her, that’s how she thought about why this train trip should be on every traveler’s list.

What motivated you to travel to the Rockies?

We like the idea of not having to drive to see the Canadian Rockies. It’s so nice, just being able to relax and watch the beautiful glass house racing scenery.

Do you have your favorite rituals on the train every day (morning coffee, afternoon wine, quiet moments watching the mountains roll over)?

Very good. They serve us coffee and French pastries every morning and then we will serve a full breakfast. My favorite is Benedict eggs. We had a drink in the afternoon after lunch and they served us cheese and cookies and a variety of snacks.

What amenities or touch make a train ride particularly luxurious?

We received excellent service and the guide knew the Rockies so well. There are wonderful meals and snacks, heated seats, and the exterior deck are a must-shoot.

What is the rock climber experience that most people wouldn’t expect?

You will never handle your luggage – it’s all done for you. Even check-in at the hotel is done for you.

Do you have a special vision or track that you feel completely in awe?

I really can’t just choose one! We love seeing Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, Eagles’ Nest, Beautiful Waterfalls and of course glaciers.

If you can only extend the time in one stop, which one? Why?

I love Banff! There are a lot to see there. This is a beautiful town, located in the heart of the mountain, and the gondola rides are spectacular.

How do you think this trip compares to a cruise or other luxury vacation?

It’s all luxury except we never dressed up and we like it.

Can most travelers get in touch with this trip?

Yes, they even have an elevator on the train for people with mobility difficulties.

Do you recommend the best time of the year for this trip?

I recommend spring or autumn. At that time, you will see the most wildlife and fewer visitors.

Will you tell your friends and clients time and time again?

We’ve been telling all of our friends that this is the best way to watch the Rockies. If you’re gone, be sure to spend some time in Vancouver, British Columbia, offering a lot of history, culture, views, shopping and restaurants. Plus, we rode a seaplane there, which was amazing.
