The city of Lyon holds the Lyon Street Food Festival every June, the largest culinary festival in France.

The good news for foodies like me, though, is that you don’t need to attend the annual event to indulge in food – it’s on the city’s menu all year round.

I learned that during my March visit, this coincided with the Rendezvous En France trade show. Atout France, the marketing department of the French Government’s Tourism Office, hosts it every year in different regions of the country to give travel agency partners the opportunity to understand the various regions of the country.

In the case of Lyon, the city’s reputation precedes it. Lyon Build holes Lyonnais Brasseries, offers authentic fares in a comfortable, earthy environment.

In short, bring your appetite.

I began my culinary exploration of the city Halles Paul BocuseNamed after the iconic chef, the name is Bocuse d’Or Championship (think of it as the chef’s Super Bowl).

Technically, Halls itself is a destination with 60 traders selling from cheese, oysters, baked goods and delis to specialty foods and wines.

There are restaurants in the hall, most restaurants have only a few tables – reservations are strongly encouraged – and small shops filled with high-end food-related souvenirs.

Back in the city center, I took advantage of the shoulder season by dining at various locations in the city without reservations, including a long lunch at the sunny outdoor table at L’Instation.

For visitors looking to try out local Bouchon, it may not be the best choice for vegetarians, as meat and cheese are very good in food – the local tourism office recommends you choose the one you choose with the Les Bouchons Lyonnaise certification.

Leave the table

As the capital of France’s Auvergne-rhone-Alpes region, Lyon is much more than delicious food.

The city’s history is located at the junction of Rhone and the Saone Rivers, extending for more than two thousand years, reflecting in its art, culture, and most famous for its architecture.

The best way to explore it all might be Lyon City Cardavailable for 24, 48, 72 or 96 hours, effective on almost all modes of transportation and access to local museums and attractions.

I used it on the cable car, which took me to the ancient mountaintop Roman amphitheater des Trois Gaules. On the easy-to-move metro, this brought me from medieval and Renaissance buildings in the old town to the confluence of rivers; and explored newly renovated on the bus Lumiere Museum.

Movie lovers will recognize that the Lumiere brothers were the creators of the first film 130 years ago. The 1895 film, dubbed “Workers Leaving the Lumire Factory”, only showed a steady group of people heading towards the camera. But for today’s audiences, this technology is revolutionary.
