I care about sharing!
There aren’t many places in New Zealand that make me question my choice to live in Wanaka, but Golden Bay certainly did. Warm, sunny, and most importantly, the cheap Jinwan inspired my interest because I could live easily. I’m just not sure my hippie meets local standards, but will give more introductions in a minute.
After completion Heaphy Track Outside the high card, I Golden Bay Air Go to the airport, where I rented a car. These people organize logistics and flights in the region. Takaka is about a million miles from Wānaka, and it’s worth $500 gasoline, so when I heard you can rent a car there, I thought I’d end up exploring the New Zealand area that I rarely visit.
I would say the word “airport” is a stretch. This is an office with a small runway and I don’t remember if it was paved. These are small aircraft. It’s so cold and easy, exactly what you want during the holidays. This car is an old Honda and it feels like you can take it anywhere. I rolled the windows down the road leading to Gaoka, the salty, warm air reminded me of my presence in heaven. Here you know everyone knows each other’s names. and all their businesses. Love it!

The first thing you need to know about Golden Bay is that it’s like going back to the 90s. This is because other parts of New Zealand also feel like a timely step.
Every few streets, there are honest boxes and no one is in a hurry to do anything. It feels so good. Golden Bay is one of the most cutting-edge areas of the South Island. It is one of New Zealand’s clearest areas and is home to some epic independent growers and farms. Actually, that’s what it is on the top of most of the South Island. I’m writing this because of the thick frost coating my electricity bill is three digits. Why wānaka, why?
Golden Bay is a huge bay that extends from the top Abel Tasman The national park has been walking along the way and bid farewell to the 26-kilometer-long sandy land. It almost forms the perfect “C” shape and is one of the more remote places in New Zealand. You have to go there; it won’t be anywhere.
The only time I have been to Jinwan, Jonah Project. Farewell spit is a huge hot spot for whale bondage, usually a massive stranding of pilot whales. There was a huge whale seven years ago with more than 400 whales. We really don’t know why they stranded here, but about it having huge tidal currents and huge tidal currents around spit, the deep water tilted on the other side is very gently tilted. Whatever the reason, this is a whale death trap.
You know this is the topic I encountered Whale stranded Years ago, alone on Lakira/Stuart Island. The horror of memory helped shape my work and inspired me to focus more on conservation, especially around marine mammals.
I know, huge fuck hack. But hey, I’m glad I’m in Golden Bay, not dead, dying whales. Win-win!
Takaka is an hour away from Motueka on the coast and the gateway to Abel Tasman National Park. But you have to drive up the mountain to get there. Jinwan and Takano are still relatively isolated, mainly because it is the huge pain of the butt. The loving mountain of Goka (New Zealand is excellent in naming and minimizes them at the same time), it has hundreds of very sharp turns and steep descents. Zoom Zoom!
But honestly you’re fine and have a lot of guard rails and plenty of options, and I hope they can do that with the Crown Range, a similar mountain road connecting Wānaka and Queenstown. There are almost no safe passing areas, which usually means you’re trapping visitors to your camper van at a speed of 50 km without having to stop and letting them line up to pass through the 20 vehicles in the back. Christ, it’s so annoying.
But I’m off topic. A few years ago, the road was damaged in a storm and for the longest time (4 years!), there was a long way to a lane so you had to wait at the traffic lights forever. A huge sign was posted next to a local to calculate the number of days the road works are underway. I want to be honest; I do like a small fight against bureaucracy.
But as the locals say, it’s just a mountain. Overcome it.

I’ll make you a secret: It’s worth driving to explore Golden Bay. Or fly around Wellington or around Golden Bay Air. This is a special place that still feels local and cold.
I decided to stay in the high for three nights, one night in my four-day rambunt (ramp) at the beach, where I unzipped, ate a bunch of fried chicken food, and washed for an hour. sigh. Nothing is better than a hot meal and a long shower after spending days in the bushes.
I stayed there for the next few nights A simple reenactmentThis is a relatively new canopy campground, just outside of Gaoka. Spoiler Alert – Like stepping into a fairy tale. I love living in this type of space for many reasons. Unique, comfortable and beautiful, they are a destination in their own right. You can stay there and be totally satisfied.
As a home for traveling, you may be able to understand why these places attract me and many others too why they are super popular.

When I sigh, I feel my breathing leave my body behind, walking to the entrance to the rustic reenactment.
Ten minutes from Takaka, along the picturesque farmland along some narrow wild roads, I felt like I had walked into the county. Many locations Lord of the Rings The film was shot in the area. The pastoral scenery and beauty are everywhere, with soft woodlands, beautiful cows and fruit trees, which makes me nostalgic. It’s not that I’m growing up, but that I’m going to run with it.
A simple reenactment Evokes the atmosphere of a tree house, but for adults. It is located in a small area away from its main house and is completely private and quiet.
Perched on wooden platforms on the edge of the oak forest, you are surrounded by nature. It is situated on the property of outstanding owners Janine and Simon, who built them out of wood excavated from the land and other repurposed materials. talent. I have a hard time putting IKEA furniture together (although in my defense, there are many steps).

There is a main building with a lounge next to the bedroom with a built-in corner to read on the window. As a book “Girl”, I will always read a good window corner. There is another building on the other side, with an open-air kitchen on one side and an open-air bathroom on the other side overlooking the forest.
Above is a second bedroom with two single beds and books. It’s perfect for kids, but adults can also be perfect for them. As someone who loves comfort and bonding, I could have been there easily and happy like a clam.
There is a hidden bathtub on the deck, the location is decorated with thoughtful touch and art. It’s totally family. I don’t want to leave. But the weather is so good that I know I have to take advantage of and explore the area. Of course, after a massive lying. Screws in the morning.
The Nelson-Tasman area, especially around Kahurangi National Park, is a cave country. There are piles. The longest and deepest cave is here, though the reason why anyone on Earth will come in is beyond me. There is no benefit from something far away from the earth.
I made some tourist caves here and there, such as the surroundings Waiting for the cave On the North Island, even on West Coast Nearby Karamea (the other end of Heaphy Track). New Zealand Black water rafting. This is when you float on Innertube guided by the cave system with varying degrees of horror. Absolutely type two fun.
I spent a lot of time shooting glow bugs there (difficulty), and after a few hours in the dark you do start going crazy. I don’t know how appropriate Cavers are, but Golden Bay has many caves of varying degrees of passage. Visitors can access many baby caves.
Just on the road from the countryside retreet, through some paddocks and along some dusty roads, is the beginning of a trail Vesti Cave. This is the proper grunt to climb to the entrance of the cave. I’m the only one there because I’m the only one. You won’t walk many holes. There is an incredible opening with a nice viewing platform inside.
With some day left, I drove to the Pongga near the spit and visited the super-named Wariki Beach. I can’t believe I’ve never been here. Or I have, I don’t remember.
It’s one of the screen savers for Windows 10, or I’m told. I haven’t used Microsoft since high school. There are several rocky islands, one with a beautiful arch, similar to an elephant. Based on the wind and tides, I think you can usually think well about the islands in surfing.
When I went, it was a strong wind, but it was beautiful. The beach swells and is surrounded by sand dunes. Watching the sand blowing through the dunes at sunset is as fascinating as the glitter, just like the movie Dune. For me, the highlight was some fur seal cubs playing in the tidal pool. I like watching them doodle around. They are super cute.
On the way back to Gaoka, I stopped for supper at Mussel Inn. This place is legendary, guys. In the middle of the wilderness, there is this beautiful Macrocarpa wooden building with extensive outdoor areas, which are music venues. I sat by the fire and there was a beer inside that they brewed a bunch of old green mussels themselves. Yum. Since the off-season is quite quiet, they did fall down some songs on the piano. marvelous.
My last morning I had a nice brunch in Takaka and headed to TeWaikoropupū Spring Water. These are the largest cold water springs in the southern hemisphere. The Pupū springs are incredible and are home to the clearest water on Earth. The spring has a water visibility of up to 81 meters and you can get close to pure water.
Spring water is regarded as a religion (treasure) by local Maori people. No one can touch or enter the water. A beautiful, simple track brings the spring out. Very amazing; blue is unreal.
Before I knew it, it was time to head to the airport and fly back to Karamea. The four of us were on a comfortable small plane with Golden Bay air on it. It was about half an hour from Karamea flight and I left the car a week ago when I started the Heathy Track. The seven-hour drive is much better at the beginning and end of the track. However, I did drive to Wānaka for ten hours. sigh.
The further south I drive, the lower the temperature outside. Maybe I should stay in the glorious Golden Bay.
Thank you very much for helping me with shipping costs. As usual, I remain true. Just like you expect less from me!
